honda Sep 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The annual National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) Hot Wheels Report for 2009 is out and the report indicates that car thieves targeted Honda Accord 1992 model most in Washington.

Coincidentally, another Honda brand the Honda Civic 1995 model was the second most stolen vehicle in Washington. Car theft remains America’s number one property crime with estimated loss of $7.4 billion to Americans annually.

Last year, a total of 26,684 cars were stolen in Washington, down from the 31,681 vehicles that were stolen from Washington in 2008. This year’s figure represents 15.8 percent drop from the number stolen in 2008.

The number of cars stolen represents an average of 73 cars stolen daily or 3 cars stolen very hour.

“Consumers literally pay billions each year for auto theft. The cost to replace stolen vehicles and repair those that are recovered is reflected in your insurance rates,” according to Karl Newman, NW Insurance Council president.

Most of the cost associated with auto theft is paid by insurance companies. There is so much potential for insurance fraud when people arrange to have their vehicles stolen so that they can claim their insurance premium.

The NICB advice that potential car owners should obtain a copy of their report or check with their insurance company to know the kind of cars that has the highest risk of being stolen, when they are going to buy their car.
