Study: Half of the high school students have bullied their fellow students
October 28th, 2010 - 12:48 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new survey that involved some 43,321 American high school students has revealed that almost half of United States’ high school students were bullying in the last 12 months.
The survey also revealed that 50% of American high school students have bullied their fellow student in the last 12 months. The study was conducted by Josephson Institute of Ethics.
The researchers say the margin of error of their study is less than one percent. Amongst the respondents, 47 percent high school students revealed that they were bullied to a point that they became “seriously upset” about it.
Other serious statistics emerged after the survey. It was revealed that 33 percent or almost 1 in 3 of American high school children believe that their school has a serious violence problem.
Worryingly, 24 percent or almost 1 in 5 American school children believed that their school was not safe with 52 percent revealing that they were physically abusive to another student because of anger.
More worryingly was the fact that 10 percent of the respondents revealed that they have taken a weapon to school at least ones in the last 12 months. 16 percent of American high school students have gone to school drunk before and that is something most parents will not be happy about.
However the interesting fact that this study has revealed is that 50 percent of American high school students are bullying the remaining 50 percent.
