The research was carried out by the poll organization, Harris Interactive. The poll which was conducted online had about 2,019 adult respondents. The results of the polls were made available on Thursday.
The results showed that a little over 3 in 10 Americans that took part in the survey admitted that they have lied about their finances to their spouse. However a third of the respondents revealed that they were rather victims of financial infidelity.
Sixteen percent of those that claim that they were victims further revealed that when they found out the truth, it led to divorce while other eleven percent said they separated as a result of the deceit. Forty-two percent of the victims said that the incident lowered the amount of trust that they had in the relationship.
It was found that the most common form of financial infidelity was hiding cash from partners.
