Surprising as it may sound, the duck fell into the chimney of her house as strong winds proved to be too overpowering for the bird. The chimney does not have any roof covering. The woman initially thought that lighting a fire would make the duck fly away. However, her hopes turned out to be futile as the bird was struck in a really awkward position and could not get out of the chimney. The plan of the woman actually backfired and her house was filled with smoke quickly. Therefore, she had no other option than calling the fire brigade to rescue the duck.

The firefighters came to the house led by Tommy Anderson, the Santa Fe Fire Chief. The bird in question was most likely a Muscovy duck. It was a big duck and hence could not find enough place to flap the wings and get out of the chimney it fell into. The area where the house is located is liked by ducks and the birds frequent the place.

One of the firefighters, Jim Cargile tried to set the bird free. He put on his gloves and reached the damper. Thereafter, he found the legs of the duck and grabbed it. He pulled the trapped bird out eventually. The bird did not resist much though it got somewhat scared. After getting released it flew away quickly. The incident is likely to be remembered by the house owner for a long time.
