Strong earthquake jolts Offshore Chiapas, Mexico

The epicenter is 55 km (35 miles) SSW of Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico, 110 km (65 miles) WSW of Quezaltenango, Guatemala, 205 km (130 miles) W of GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, 900 km (560 miles) SE of MEXICO CITY, D.F., Mexico with the depth of 24 km (14.9 miles) set by location program.
Twenty three years ago, an earthquake in Mexico City was one of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of the Americas. Mexico City was struck by an earthquake of magnitude 8.1 on the Richter scale.
