Strong 6.7-magnitude aftershock causes power outages in quake-hit Chile

chile3 SANTIAGO (BNO NEWS) — A very strong aftershock struck central Chile on Monday night, seismologists said, causing power outages but no aparent major damage according to Chilean officials.

The 6.7-magnitude earthquake happened at 11.22 p.m. local time and was centered about 75 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Concepcion, according to the U.S Geological Survey. It struck about 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) deep.

Talcahuano and other cities near the epicenter were without electricity following the aftershock. There was no tsunami risk, Chilean officials told CNN Chile.

Chile was hit by a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake on February 27.
