Strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake hits off Papua New Guinea
June 2nd, 2010 - 5:26 pm ICT by BNO NewsNEW YORK (BNO NEWS) — A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday evening, seismologists said.
The 6.2-magnitude earthquake was centered about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west-northwest of Kandrian, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It struck about 24 miles (40 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake. No tsunami warnings were issued.
