Strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake hits quake-hit Chile
April 23rd, 2010 - 5:43 pm ICT by BNO NewsSANTIAGO (BNO NEWS) — A strong earthquake struck central Chile on Friday, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
The 6.1-magnitude earthquake at 6.03 a.m. local time was centered about 65 kilometers (41 miles) south of Concepcion. It struck about 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The NOAA Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake at 6.0 on the Richter scale.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami warnings were issued.
