Storms Rip Through Chicago

chicagoJune 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A series of storms ripped through Chicago on Friday evening. The winds which were close to 70mph caused considerable wind damage.

The storm blew out the windows of the Willis Tower and also started some fires in the suburban area. The severe thunderstorm brought with it high winds, heavy rains and frequent lightning strikes. The line of storms organized in a form called the ‘bow echo’ were predicted to hit the same area again at night with even more force.

Earlier, the National Weather Service warned the citizens about the approaching storm. Throughout the area there were several injuries reported. In the Humboldt Park area, a man trapped under a tree was rescued by fire fighters. He was immediately taken to the nearby hospital for the critical injuries. There were a total of 1080 tree emergencies reported from the area.

Some cars were also damaged due the trees. In Palatine, a building was damaged severely due to fire caused by a lightning strike. The electric supply company said that nearly 2,86,000 people were without power due to the storms.

For the people who were out on the streets on the otherwise bright and sunny Friday, the storm came as a shock. Inside the Willis Tower, the people slid in their chairs as the building began to sway due to the powerful winds. The latest reports by the weather department in Chicago has warned citizens about the extremely hot weather that will continue the entire week.

Precautionary measures are being taken for any further weather related emergencies by the Emergency Management And Communications and other bodies.
