London, Oct 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jilloch, the chimpanzee that was involved in Britain’s long running campaign has died at the age of 34.

The animal died of heart attack on Sunday.

Jilloch was kept at the Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire and was famous for his advertisements in PG Tips in Britain. The animal was one of the chimps that appeared on the adverts.

Caretakers at the zoo said they tried to keep the animal as comfortable as possible. They however maintain that in spite of the popularity of Jilloch, the animal remained shy and never allow her fame to get to her.

The animal was very popular in Britain in the 70s and 80s. She featured in several adverts during the time and in one advert, the animal was seen watching football while drinking tea.

Jilloch was an African Ape and the animal’s contribution to the success of PG Tips in Britain cannot be disputed. The adverts had tremendous impact on the success of PG Tips in just two years the adverts began airing.

The zoo authorities did not specify why they kept the announcement of the animal’s death a secret until today.
