St. Petersburg, FL man shot dead during altercation

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) — A 22-year-old St. Petersburg, Florida man was shot and killed during an altercation on late Monday, police said on Tuesday.

The shooting happened around 10.45 p.m. local time when officers responded to 4561 20th Avenue South after receiving a report of a person shot. When officers arrived at the scene, officers located the victim laying in the street with a gun shot wound to his upper body. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries.

The St. Petersburg Police Department identified the victim as 22-year-old Tremel M. Mitchell, a black male who lived at the residence where the shooting happened.

According to police, there was a physical altercation inside the residence after which the suspect fired several shots at the opposing crowd, striking Mitchell. The suspect was not immediately identified, and an investigation is ongoing.

The next of kin of Mitchell has been notified.
