February 22nd, 2012 - 12:34 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Feb 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) For those who will be taking active part in the Lent, the Mardi Gras is an important day because it will be the last time that they will have the chance to eat what they like before the fasting.
Cookies and pastries are some of the common food consumed on the day. Pancakes and the Polish traditional food of paczki which has become a delicacy throughout the world are among the common food eaten on Mardi Gras. On the day, many family spend their reserve of eggs, flour, sugar, milk and fat because those foods are forbidden during the Lent.
The Lent is a solemn period when Christians fast and asks the LORD to forgive their sins. The period is a preparatory period to usher in the Easter which is seen as one of the most important festivities on the calendar of Christians.
If you happen to be around, Gothamist is promising that, “The big event is The 3rd Annual Two Boots Mardi Gras Ball on Fat Tuesday. This even is a benefit for the Lower Eastside Girls Club and “promises to be the biggest, baddest Mardi Gras event outside of New Orleans.” It’s even got a celebrity: Rosario Dawson will be there, along with even ringleader and emcee Murray Hill.”
