Ocotillo, June 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The series of earthquakes that have struck southern California on Monday night have made the public weary of even the slightest tremors. Though no casualty or injuries have been reported yet, there are reports that indicate some buildings in Ocotillo have been damaged although the damage has not been reported to be significant in any way.
The town of Ocotillo in California, which is 5 miles from the epicenter of the 5.7 measuring earthquake, has been on high alert since the quake. As the epicenter of the series of earthquake was quite near to Ocotillo, people in and around the region were able to feel the series of tremors which forced them to come out of their houses.
Meanwhile, Louis Fuentes, chairman of the Imperial County board of supervisors recounted the experience during the earthquake and emphasized that the tremors could be felt quite strongly. He said that as soon as the tremors started his wife ran out of the house with his children. He was working at his garage at the time and was completely stunned by the earthquake.
The quake also resulted in the disrupting of a baseball game between Padres and Toronto Blue Jays. As soon as the quake started the authorities immediately asked the crowds to keep their calm to avoid a stampede that could have resulted in more injuries and deaths than the earthquake itself.
The Haiti earthquake has been a wake up call for people all over the world who have seen the damaging and destructive power of the natural disaster.
Seismologists have said the recent tremors were aftershocks of the quake of 7.2 on the Richter scale that hit the Baja California peninsula of Mexico two months ago.
