South Korea vow to defend territory
January 3rd, 2011 - 9:36 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattSeoul, Jan 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It seems South Korea have had enough of their neighbors in the North. The country’s president has warned that the country will take steps to protect its territories.
The president - Lee Myung-bak used his New Year’s message to South Koreans to warn the North that if ever the North attacks again, his country will retaliate with a mightier force.
North Korea in September shelled the disputed island of Yeonpyeong. Though the incident resulted in the death of a civilian and two South Korean soldiers, the North maintained that the South provoked the attack with its drilling. It was the first time since the end of the Koran war that the two countries exchanged fire.
The South Korean authorities came under attacks from their own citizens for the way the attacks were handled.
The president is not ready for any of such events again. He warned that, “The situation before and after the provocation against Yeonpyeong Island cannot be the same. Any provocation that would pose a threat to our lives and property will not be tolerated. Such provocations will be met with stern, strong responses.”
Lee Myung-bak however said that his country’s doors were still open for the North to dialogue.
