South Carolina doctor sentenced for illegal drug distribution
February 27th, 2010 - 1:43 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) – A doctor, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, was sentenced to 41 months of supervised release for conspiring to illegally distribute oxycodone, U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald announced on Friday.
Dr. Roger Hershline, 54, wrote prescriptions without a medical purpose to addicts and dealers of powerful painkillers in the Hilton Head area. Hershline didn’t even perform a physical examination or reviewed the patient’s medical history.
Users said that sometimes Hershline Accepted fees for the prescriptions and in other occasions he received cocaine and marijuana for personal use.
Dr. Hershline was responsible for thousands of doses of oxycodone illegally dispensed from 2006 to 2007.
