Solar Eclipse 2009 to black out worlds most populated nations

solar eclipse 2009 The most populated countries in the world will be blacked out for up to six minutes and 39 seconds tomorrow when the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century cuts a swathe through China and India.

The monster solar eclipse will occur when the Moon passes in front of the Sun and make landfall on the western Indian state of Gujarat shortly before 6.30am local time (0100 UTC).

It will then race across India, blacking out the holy city of Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges, squeeze between the northern and southern tips of Bangladesh and Nepal before engulfing most of Bhutan, traversing the Chinese mainland and slipping back out to sea off Shanghai.

The shadow from the eclipse will be up to 258km (160 miles) wide with a partial eclipse visible in Thailand (subject to local weather conditions) where residents in Phuket will experience up to a 20 percent block-out at about 8.10am (0110 UTC), while those in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai will have up to 60 percent view.

The phenomenon will also be seen in parts of Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean.

Thaiindian news will have a live streaming feed of the eclipse from China commencing at 0100UTC.
