winterFeb 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Snowmageddon, as President Barack Obama called it, has undeniably brought public life to a standstill in various parts of USA. The country is reeling under the onslaught of a severe blizzard unprecedented in recent times that has taken a toll on the transport system and forced the Federal offices to suspend their operations for days. However, on Thursday the battered Washington D.C region showed slight improvement with mass transit and offices limping back to operations slowly. The residents are having a tough time in keeping the houses and driveways free from the incessant snowfall.

The roads still remain risky for the drivers and some of them are still under snow making them almost unusable by cars. Bus and Metro services have resumed in bits and the officials think that it will take a few days before the transport gets back in form. Amtrak officials also said that they expect to begin normal operations by Friday itself. Three airports of the area have also started functioning.

The federal government offices remained close till Thursday from Monday and they are scheduled to open on Friday. However, the kids continue to enjoy unexpected holidays as the majority of the schools in the region will remain closed on Friday. Some rooftops collapsed owing to excessive snowfall over the last few days but luckily no one has been injured. However, the weather experts have warned that the reduction in snowfall does not necessarily mean the end of inclement weather. The supermarkets have reopened in some areas and cleaning operations are in full swing.
