Small plane forced to land after flying into D.C. airspace
August 26th, 2009 - 1:25 pm ICT by BNO NewsWASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — A small plane flew into restricted airspace over the U.S. capital on Tuesday afternoon, government officials told BNO News.
According to a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a small Cessna plane entered restricted airspace north of D.C. at 2.13 p.m. local time. A student pilot was on board the aircraft.
Blackhawk helicopters responded to the aircraft and forced it to land at Montgomery County Airpark in Maryland. A Secret Service spokesman said no criminal intend is being suspected.
There were no reports of evacuations due to the airspace intrusion. Federal agents are interviewing the pilot.
