Small plane crashes into Austin building, reports of people trappedFebruary 18th, 2010 - 11:50 pm ICT by BNO News
AUSTIN (BNO NEWS) — A small plane crashed into a building in northwest Austin on Thursday, federal officials said.
The first 911 call came in at 9.57 a.m. local time, according to the Austin Police Department. It happened in the 9400 block of Research Boulevard.
It was not immediately clear how many people were on board the plane. Lynn Lunsford, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), said it was a small single-engine aircraft, but had no further details.
TV pictures showed heavy smoke rising from the building. Multiple people are believed to be trapped on the second floor of the building, but officials have not yet been able to verify that.
