- HUNTINGTON, West Virginia (BNO NEWS) — Two people died after the small plane they were on crashed near Huntington in West Virginia on Sunday afternoon, officials told BNO News.
The plane, a fixed wing single-engine aircraft, went down four miles south of Tri-State airport in Huntington Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed. The crash happened just before 1 p.m. local time, shortly after the plane took off from the airport. The aircraft was “completely destroyed,” killing the two people on board.
The FAA said the plane’s N-Number was 207JB and records showed the plane belonged to Michael L. Land from Richland, Michigan but a spokesman stressed it was not known if the owner was actually on board the plane.
The plane was model LC41-550FG of Columbia Aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. No one on the ground was injured.
