Washington, Feb 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A small fire in a Smithsonian museum in Washington was quickly extinguished by firefighters on Monday.

After putting out the fire, the firefighters said the fire caused minimal damage. Luckily enough, not many of the items in the museum were destroyed. There were no injuries too, due to the fire.

It is believed that the fire started in an air-conditioner equipment in the museum. National Museum of Natural History, which is located inside Washington’s National Mall is one of the most famous museums in the country. The fire caused the museum to be closed temporary.

The deputy fire chief Kenneth Crosswhite of the Washington Fire department told reporters that, “The fire is under control. You could even say it’s out… and damage is minimal.”

Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick black plume in the sky of Washington on Monday morning. Traffic around the National Mall was disrupted early in the morning.

Some analysts have blamed the fire on the fact that the facility has not been renovated for such a long time. The US government who solely funds the museum is considering charging admission fees to be able to defray some of the costs of maintaining the place.
