Small earthquake rattles south-western Poland
April 30th, 2010 - 2:58 pm ICT by BNO NewsWARSAW, POLAND (BNO NEWS) — A small earthquake rattled south-western Poland on early Friday, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
The 4.5-magnitude earthquake at 5.51 a.m. local time was centered about 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) northwest of the city of Legnica. It struck about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.
The U.S. Geological Survey measured the strength of the earthquake at 4.1 on the Richter scale. There were no reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake.
Small earthquakes frequently shake south-western Poland. On April 15, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck about 31 kilometers (19.2 miles) north of Legnica.
