nox July 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Amanda Knox, who was accused of murdering her roommate, a British student named Miss Kercher, is facing a sentence of 26 years in prison. She is facing the charges is Italy but has denied being guilty. Now her parents are facing another charge of slander in Italy adding to her woes.

The parents of Amanda live in Seattle and are fighting against the charges brought against their daughter. Curt Knox and Edda Mellas, the parents of Amanda, divorced when she was a young child.

During her appearance in court Amanda accused the Italian police hitting her. The 22 year girl said that she was beaten and hit on the head during the interrogation, which the Italian police denied.

Amanda was reported to have signed the incriminating statement at 5:45 in the morning following nine hours of interrogation in one session. In the court, she said, “I did not know why they were treating me so badly, I got very scared.”

In fact, in their interview to a newspaper two years back, Amanda’s parents also repeatedly claimed the beating allegation.

Amanda’s parents said, “They abused her verbally and physically. She told us that a police officer hit her twice on back of the head with an open hand. The police said her, ‘things will turn worse for you if you ask for a lawyer’.”

The police in Perugia have now begun legal proceedings against Amanda as well as her parents, who tried to defame them.

Her father Curt Knox said, “She was not trying to slander people but wanted to explain just what she experienced. She wanted explain the reason behind all these circumstances.”

Last month, Amanda appeared in court for slander. The case against her parents will begin in mid-October. Amanda’s appeal against her murder conviction will also start around the same time.

So, it is going to be double battle for Amanda and her parents!
