fortFort Hood, Nov.11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The memorial service for the 13 people killed in Fort Hood was held on Tuesday and which was hugely attended by all the friends and family of the victims. The service, which was open to public was also attended by fellow soldiers and other civilians who were all united by grief. The service turned out to be an extremely emotional affair as thousands held back tears and paid their tribute to the slain victims.

The service was also attended by President Barack Obama, who said that he was heartbroken and shocked at the shooting rampage. While addressing the huge crowd at the memorial service, the President said that the fact which made this rampage even more painful was that the soldiers had died on the American soil and not in some foreign land, fighting enemies. The President had mentioned earlier that a through investigation would be undertaken to know the reasons which led to the tragedy and at the same time initiatives would be taken to ensure that such unfortunate incident does not happen in the future. The President also met the injured soldiers as well as with the relatives of the slain soldiers before attending the service.

The incident took place last Thursday, when army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan went on a wild shooting spree. In the process, he killed 13 people and injured as many as 31. Nidal, who himself retained few gunshot wounds in the rampage is reportedly recovering from the injuries. Reportedly, other soldiers who have been wounded in the incident are doing well and are gradually recovering at Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center.
