KABUL (BNO NEWS) – Six NATO troops died during several incidents in Afghanistan on Saturday and Sunday, the ISAF alliance said on Sunday.

One U.S. soldier died of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated in southern Afghanistan, and a second U.S. soldier died during an insurgent attack. The two incidents, which took place on Saturday, were not connected.

In Musa Qal’eh District, located in northern Helmand Province, a British soldier died as a result of an explosion that happened while on a vehicle patrol on Sunday morning.

“The death of this brave soldier from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh is mourned by his friends, colleagues and all of us serving Task Force Helmand. We know that our loss is nothing compared to the sorrow of his family, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, a spokesman for Task Force Helmand.

Further, a spokeswoman for President Sarkozy’s office in Paris confirmed that three French soldiers died in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday. “A Sergeant and a Corporal of the 13th Parachute Dragoon Regiment of Dieuze and a First Class soldier of the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Marine Valves died accidentally during an operation that took place at night,” a statement said.

President Sarkozy expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, but reiterated his determination to work for peace and development in Afghanistan.
