Six dead, 21 missing after coal mine explosion in West Virginia - TV
April 6th, 2010 - 5:34 am ICT by BNO NewsCHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA (BNO NEWS) — At least six coal miners died and 21 are unaccounted for after an explosion Monday at a coal mine in West Virginia, local media reports said.
The explosion happened around 4:30 ET at Performance Coal Company’s Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, West Virginia, according to WSAZ-TV.
“We have received information that there are several unaccounted for, perhaps as many as 21,” Ron Wooten, director of the state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training told Charleston Gazette. “We have received a report that there are six fatalities.”
