Longview, Wash, Dec 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A security guard at a store had most of his ear chopped off by a shoplifter. The suspect is still at large as officers have launched an investigation to solve the case which is arguably one of the horrifying ones in recent times.

Officers explained that the shoplifter might have walked in with the hatchet that he used for the attack. He allegedly pulled the weapon and swung it. The security guard was not lucky and the attack resulted in most of his ear being chopped off. He had to be rushed to the hospital where doctors were trying to restore the ear.

During an interview with The Daily News, Longview police Sgt. Doug Kazensky revealed that the guard was rushed to the Portland hospital where they hoped the severed ear could be reattached.

The hunt is currently on for the suspect. The incident happened on Monday at Fred Meyer supermarket where the man had just stolen CDs and other items. Two security guards had gone in to apprehend him when he pulled the hatchet out and swung at one of the guards. He later made it for the door and managed to escape.

The police has asked the public to volunteer information.
