Shooting on Harvard CampusMay 19th, 2009 - 5:46 pm ICT by GD
An unidentified youth was shot at 5 pm local time in one of the premier institutions of the world, Harvard University. The incident took place at the entrance of the Kirkland House dormitory. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, the cause of the shooting has not yet been identified. The victim fell down unconscious on Dunster Street as he was trying to escape after being shot. The victim, who appeared to the witnesses as African American has not yet been identified. A dental student named Sprague came to the aid of the youth, who, it is not yet clear, belongs to the Harvard University or not.
Campus shootings are not a new phenomenon in the United States, and this incident is not a singular one. However, it is clear that the assailant was not intending any mass shooting and might have some personal score to settle with the victim. The police departments of both Harvard and Cambridge are on the lookout for the shooter. All the nearby areas have been searched but nothing of note has been found as yet. The investigators are trying hard to find a clue and the suspected assailant. All the students have been asked to remain at their respective places. The university officials have also asked them to report any sort of unusual activity or person in the Campus.
The incident is both terrifying and disheartening. Not only is a young life at stake, but the incident once more raises questions about the safety issues on the campus.
