- KABUL (BNO NEWS) – Several rockets struck the Afghan capital on Tuesday morning, officials told BNO News.
The attacks happened around 3 a.m. local time when multiple rockets struck the Kabul area, said Captain John Stock from the NATO-led ISAF alliance. At least three rockets were fired according to Stock, but he was not able to provide a complete figure. A report from the Associated Press stated that five rockets were fired.
Two of the rockets hit close to Kabul International Airport, Stock said. Initial reports from Al Jazeera said some of the rockets had struck in the area of the U.S. Embassy, but Stock denied the report. “No rockets hit near the U.S. embassy,” he said.
A staffer at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul confirmed there had been no explosion near the embassy. “I don’t see anything,” he said. The staffer said he had received a call from his family who did hear an explosion, but had no further details.
Stock said one Afghan child was injured in one of the attacks.
It was not immediately clear who was behind the rocket attacks.
