Columbus, OHIO (BNO NEWS) – Several people were injured when a grand stand partially collapsed at the Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, emergency officials tell BNO News.
The incident was reported at around 5 p.m. local time, less than two hours before the first race of the 2009 racing season. “There were 6 people that were injured, we didn’t have anyone trapped [..] and it sounds like most of them are walking wounded and they contained the incident already,” Battalion Chief David Whiting told BNO News. At least one person was taken to a hospital but none of the injuries were considered to be serious.
As a result, all races have been cancelled on Saturday.
