ARGHANDAB DISTRICT — An Afghan-international security force operating in Arghandab district, Kandahar province, discovered a cache of munitions on Saturday, the NATO-led ISAF alliance said. The cache consisted of 38 RPG rounds, eight recoilless rifles and 2,200 rounds of 7.62 mm small arms ammunition.

GARM SER DISTRICT — NATO-led ISAF forces operating in the Garm Ser district of Helmand province discovered a large cache of homemade explosives on Saturday, the alliance said. The estimated 310 kg cache included 36 five liter jugs of explosives and 9 kg of fragmentation. ISAF forces destroyed the cache at the site.

KHAN-NESHIN DISTRICT — ISAF forces on Saturday assisted the Afghan National Security Forces in securing the area around the Tagaz bazaar in Khan-Neshin district of Helmand province after an improvised explosive device blast killed two children and wounded two other civilians, the NATO-led alliance said.

ISAF said the explosion appears to be the result of a suicide attack, and said the wounded were being treated by ISAF at a nearby foward operating base.

“All indications are this is another example of the insurgents deliberately injuring and killing Afghan civilians and shows their lack of respect for the Afghan society,” said U.S. Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, a spokesperson for ISAF. “While ISAF forces go to great lengths to avoid harming innocent civilians, the insurgents regularly and purposefully place the children, men and women of Afghanistan in danger.”

* LONDON — The British Ministry of Defense said 19-year-old Rifleman Peter Aldridge from the 4th Battalion, The Rifles, died during an explosion while on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand province last Friday. Aldridge is the fifth British soldier to die in Afghanistan this year.
