Scotland Yard to investigate MPs and peers over expenses scandal
June 19th, 2009 - 11:39 pm ICT by admin ( Leave a comment )LONDON (BNO NEWS) — Scotland Yard will investigate several British members of parliament and peers over the alleged misuse of expenses, officials said on Saturday.
“After consideration by the joint Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service assessment panel, the Met has decided to launch an investigation into the alleged misuse of expenses by a small number of MPs and peers,” a statement from Scotland Yard read.
Scotland Yard did not immediately provide information on who would be investigated, or how many. According to British news channel Sky News, it would involve up to five members of parliament including Labour MPs Elliot Morley and David Chaytor.
The investigation will be conducted by officers from the Met’s Economic and Specialist Crime Command, under the oversight of T/AC Janet Williams.
Scotland Yard further said that the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service assessment panel will continue to consider a “small number of other individuals.”
