Washington DC, Feb 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The FBI initiated investigation into the activities of the Church of Scientology after a number of defectors made some serious allegations against the church.

The church is headed by David Miscavige who many of the former members point fingers at as enslaving them. The church has several branches in the United States and other places all over the world. It has wide array of followers that includes Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and Kelly Preston.

There are several accusations against the church from former members. Some of the defectors claim that the church is engaged in cult-like activities that include abuse, forced labor and other crimes against members.

Two of such former members, Marc and Claire Headley told of how they were forced to work 20 hours a day. However when they took the issue to court, a judge ruled that the church was made up of religious workers and as such threw their suit out. The couple has appealed the ruling though.

The FBI has been investigating the church since last year but it is just recently that it is being reported.

The church has denied all the allegations claiming that they are “little more than a regurgitation of old allegations that have long been disproved.”
