Nov.9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The schools under the Archdiocese of New Orleans, have announced that all schools are going to remain closed on Monday, the Nov. 9. The authorities had to take this step to ensure the safety of the students. The hurricane Ida is gradually inching closer and therefore the best idea for everyone would be to stay indoors. The decision was taken on Sunday around 8 in the night. Catherine Finnerty, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools announced that all the schools under the archdiocesan would remain closed as the weather conditions in that area grew pretty threatening. Parents have been asked to adhere to the notification and contact the schools in case of any query.
Schools in the Recovery School District and the office have also been scheduled to remain shut for the day. The Charter Schools that are under the supervision of the Orleans Parish School Board have not yet made an announcement. They will announce whether classes will be held on their respective campuses or not. Ronald C. Bateman, the Director of Student Services of Plaquemines Parish, said that the schools under the parish will have to remain closed, as the area faced voluntary evacuation. Billy Nungesser, the president of the Parish, said that the schools may be closed in the future. He mentioned that the students will be notified of further closures if the situation demands it.
Schools in Terrebone Parish have not announced a closure. They will remain open despite the threat of the hurricane. There is the threat of flooding in the low lying areas of the parish. The officials have made sandbags available in the area to combat the rising waters.
