Schools cut lunch options for kids who can’t pay
February 22nd, 2011 - 11:31 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLee County, Feb 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Schools are not ready to dish out free lunch to students again. Well they would; just that they would make the difference between those that pay and those that don’t pay clear.
Students are supposed to pay $2 each day to enjoy meals. However for obvious reasons, it is not every child who gets to pay the amount. Only a third of the students are able to pay that particular amount every day. The rest either pay some part or nothing at all. They were made to enjoy the meals as well.
That is about to change because students who don’t pay the amount in full daily would not be given the regular meal. Instead they would be eating what is called ‘alternative meal’. The alternative meal is nothing like what would be enjoyed by those that pay their feeding fee.
According to the Post Chronicle, the ‘alternative meal’ would consist of cheese and bread with some juice to wash it down. As far as the schools are concerned that is how far they could go in providing lunch for students who cannot afford $2 a day.
