Sep 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former United States vice-president Al Gore is all set to be recognized with the honor of a environmental school in Los Angeles being named after him. However, the honor bestowed on the environmentalist is making headlines not only because Al Gore is the first vice-president who would be conferred with such a honor but because the location of the school might pose a health risk to the students as the ground on which the school has been built contains high levels of toxic chemicals.
A leading news source has reported that the Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences has been established by spending $75.5 million on a ground that is highly contaminated as it used to have a dozen storage tanks which contain industrial toxins. At the same time, it has been reported that construction crews worked relentlessly over the weekend to clean the area and get rid of the polluted soil. However, the school authorities have refuted the allegations that the location where the educational institution has been established might be hazardous to the students. John Sterritt, who is the chief safety officer of the school has revealed to the media that there is no doubt that the school is safe and in case if there was some kind of hazard then the existing processes would have been able to detect it.
The Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences has been named after the former vice-president of United States as he is known to have played a major role in raising awareness about climatic change since he left office. Apart from Al Gore, the school also honors environmental author Rachel Carson.
