spyPhiladelphia, Feb 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) High School students of the Lower Merion School District have brought a collective complaint against the school authorities. According to the filing, the students found out that they were being spied upon by the school authorities with the help of webcams that were fitted with the laptops that the students had been issued from their school. The fact came into light after the Principal of the school used a photo taken by the webcam to reprimand one of the students for indecent behavior at home.

The students claim in their lawsuit that the step taken by the school authorities was improper and uncalled for, as it is possible that via the webcam, they might have caught them and their families in compromising positions. The lawsuit also explains that the laptops that the students had been issued with were enabled with a device that is used to track stolen laptops. The lawsuit also explains that the school authorities could activate the webcam at any time of their choosing, without even taking the permission of the students. Most of the students had taped up the webcam after the incident came to light, claiming of being spooked by the idea of being watched.

The webcams were deactivated on Thursday, and a notice was issued in the official website of the school by the authorities. The notice claimed that providing the laptops was not taken to spy on the private moments of the students or their families, but merely to make sure that the students would be able to have all kinds of educational benefits. They also apologized for having caused the trouble and inconvenience to the students and their families.
