Nov 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Its seems dominating the headlines has turned into a perpetual habit for former U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. If not for her political career, the Republican leader is creating a buzz for her latest television stint “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” a show that made its debut on TLC recently. However, the latest buzz surrounding the U.S. politician is regarding a new word ‘refudiate’ that she coined and popularized earlier this year as it has been named the ‘Word of the Year’ by Oxford American Dictionary.
The made-up word which is the amalgamation of two words ‘refute’ and ‘refudiate’ grabbed immense attention when Sarah Palin famously used it during a television television in the month of July. However, even the most loyal supporters of the Republican leader could have never imagined in their wildest dreams that the word would be popular to such a large extent that editors at the Oxford American Dictionary would consider it worthy enough to be recognized as a new word. The announcement that the word ‘refudiate’ has been honored with the 2010 ‘Word of the Year’ award was made by the New Oxford American Dictionary on Monday.
Sarah Palin used the word for the very first time in July during a television appearance on Fox in which she demanded that United States President Barack Obama ‘refudiate’ his claims that the Tea Party Movement was racist. A few days later, the Republican leader again used the term in a Twitter post while addressing the Ground Zero issue in which she asked peaceful Muslims to ‘refudiate’ the matter.
