London, Dec 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A British student couldn’t believe her luck when she was given a rare 50 pence coin.
The coin has next year’s date on it and it is believed that it is one of the special mints that were created to herald the upcoming Olympic Games in London.
The student, Sarah Legg indicated that she wants to sell the coin to a collector. She seeks to have substantial amount that will help her pay for the remainder of her education. She is currently studying forensic science at the Fareham College in Hampshire.
That might not happen though because the Royal Mint, which is responsible for creating coins in Britain, has revealed that Brits should look forward to finding more of the coins because they are being released into circulation gradually.
The Royal Mint further added that the coins are not worth more than 50 pence, which is the face value of the amount.
Legg said that she initially thought that the coin has gone into circulation by mistake because of the date that was on the coin.
She said that, “I was a bit shocked to be honest and showed all my friends. It looks like the Royal Mint have made a blunder.”
