However, the city’s mayor is against the ban on the sale of McDonald’s popular meals and that is why he has vetoed the ban prompting media reactions. He thinks the ban is very intrusive in nature and it should not be supported. The mayor also said that it is not the responsibility of a state or the politicians to decide what a kid can eat or not. He also added that what the kids should eat can be decided by their parents as they are the ones who spend the money.

The San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom also said that the ban was imposed with good intention but it was far from effective. The ban was imposed on the ground that fast food outlets would not be allowed to offer toys to kids if their food fails to meet nutritional standards set by the Board of Supervisors. The proponents of the ban are saying that it will help in fighting childhood obesity which is becoming a growing menace in the USA. Sadly for the kids who are addicted to the happy Meals menu of McDonald’s, none of the 24 meals conform to the standard prescribed by the lawmakers in San Francisco. Most of the Happy meal dishes violate the rules. A lot of them exceed the limit of sodium and calories.

McDonald’s has faced flak from many quarters for its calorie and fat rich fast foods that promote obesity in kids and adults despite their popularity. The outlet of course is happy that the mayor has vetoed the ban.
