The theme celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City while embracing today’s generation of GLBT (gay, bi-sexual, lesbian and trans-sexual) activists who have molded their way in order to gain the right to equality.

Tagged as Sn Diego’s largest, most colorful and exciting event, the 35th Annual LGBT Pride Parade, will take place on Saturday, July 18. The parade route will travel the “rainbow mile” down University Avenue at Normal Street to Sixth Avenue at Upas Street. It is reported that as many as 175 decorated contingents will cross the parade route as around 1,50,000 spectators will seemingly cheer for them.

People who are supposed to take part in the event will consist of students, politicians, community groups, people of color, old people, teenagers and everything in between.

San Diego LGBT Pride is supposed to welcome “NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt” founder Cleve Jones as the “grand marshal” to its 2009 parade line up. Cleve is currently associated with “UNITE HERE”, an international union that represents workers in the hotel, restaurant and textile industries in an effort to strengthen the bond between labor leaders and GLBT community.

The parade will also feature two Community Grand Marshals that is “The San Diego Alliance For Marriage Community” and “The San Diego Equality Campaign”. This year the parade will also include a record number of reviewing stands, placed along the route with community leaders, entertainers and local personalities.

A huge crowd is expected to greet the parade with utmost care.
