San Antonio, May 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) An 18 wheeler fuel truck exploded at the Age refinery located at San Antonio yesterday and it resulted in a number of smaller explosions that created panic in the region. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the site of the explosion and it could be seen from far. One of the refinery employees received critical injuries and he was taken to a hospital. Another refinery worker who received minor injuries was treated on the spot. Another worker who reportedly went missing after the accident was traced later and he was treated for dehydration. Charles Hood, the San Antonio Fire Chief said that his men wasted no time in taming the blaze and they managed to douse it by 4 pm.
The firefighters spent some time in cooling the tanks to avoid further explosions and fire threats. They achieved success when a special rescue team managed to turn off valves that led to fuel leakage feeding the fire. If the fire could not be doused it could have led to even bigger explosions at the site. The majority of the refinery employees did not suffer any burn or wounds but they suffered from smoke inhalation problems.
The root of the explosion is yet to be traced. The explosion forced the authorities to get the residents living in adjacent areas evacuated. The nearby roads were closed down after the explosion to evade any mishap. Age is a small refinery which is reportedly is not doing too well. The residents became apprehended after they heard the sound and saw the smoke coming out of the refinery site.
