Sam Houston State University Locked Down For A Toy Gun

san-uniOct 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A fake rumor at the Sam Houston State University on Friday afternoon, created a lot of anxiety amongst the insiders. There was a report at about 2:30 PM, that there was a gunman inside the university campus.

As the panicking news broke to the Sam Houston State University police, they took no time to take actions under critical incident management plan. It was reported that a few individual were carrying guns near the University Theater Center. The entire university was put on lock down by the police. All through out the afternoon, the entire university campus was surrounded with armed law enforcement officers, who were constantly keeping an eye on the situation. Later on however, it was found that the individuals involved students, who were playing “nerf ball” game and there was nothing serious about it. No one were detained as it was an act of innocence. It was investigated that it was a mere toy gun that created the panic. By 3:30 PM the police confirmed that there was no threat as no suspect could be traced down by the police and there was no firing in or around the university. At 4:30 PM, Houstonian staff member received the news that the University was safe and it happened due to the “nerf ball” game.

Dana Gibson, Sam Houston State University President says that the cooperation and response on the part of the police and the local agencies were much appreciable and it made them realize the importance of improving the communication system within the university. Bruce Erickson, SHSU’s director of communication, said in a press conference that the group of students did not mean to harm anyone and therefore no one has been punished.
