Salina, KS man sentenced for guns and drug trafficking

TOPEKA, KANSAS (BNO NEWS) – A Salina, Kansas man was sentenced to 78 months of imprisonment on firearms and drug trafficking charges, prosecutors announced on Thursday.

Carlos Maldonado Aguilar, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances.

Maldonado was arrested after being monitored in controlled purchases of illegal substances. On July 23, 2008, he sold $375 worth of methamphetamine to an undercover agent of the Salina Police Department. Maldonado admitted to be in possession of a .22 caliber handgun at the moment of the sale, he said he carried the gun in his waistband in other purchases.

Aguilar was sentenced to 60 months for the gun possession charge and to 18 months of imprisonment of the other two counts.
