Safety Board Holds Pilot Error Responsible For New York Crash

crashWashington, Feb 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The probable cause which led to an airline crash into a house located in Buffalo, N.Y, has been attributed to errors committed by the pilots, a federal safety agency revealed on Tuesday. At the same time, safety investigators have also pointed out that the actual problems that eventually led to the unfortunate accident goes far beyond a particular event.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday brought to light the probable causes which were responsible for the crash as well as highlighted safety recommendations that need to be considered in order to avoid such kind of an incident in future. Head of the board Deborah Hersman, has expressed concern that the accident brings into focus the issue that whether the regional airlines can offer the same level of safety standards as the major airlines. At the same time, Deborah Hersman also implied that the board aims to pursue the issue in a bid to avert such accidents and criticized the Federal Aviation Administration for its inability to address the safety concerns.

On February 12, 2009, a Continental Connection Flight 3407, operated by Colgan Air Inc., a regional air carrier, suffered a crash while it was about to land claiming the lives of 49 passengers aboard as well as a person on the ground.

The safety investigators have revealed that both the pilots of the flight were most probably fatigued due to which they could not take the necessary steps to prevent the accident.

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board has put forward recommendations and at the same time legislation is being taken into consideration to decrease pilot tiredness and ensure better training.
