SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — An alleged drug conspirator of Sacramento, California appeared in court on Thursday, along with fifty -one other defendants, to stand trial after officers seized several pounds of methamphetamine.

Prosecutors said that Jorge Albert Reyes, 30, of Sacramento, made his appearance in court after an extensive investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Immigration, the Sacramento County Sherriff’s Department, and several other state and federal departments. Reyes is one of fifty one defendants charged in nine related indictments that developed from a 13-month federal investigation with connections to six different states including: Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Alaska, Georgia, and California. Reyes, who had been a federal fugitive since August 13th, 2008, is alleged to have led one of the four drug rings federal and state investigators disrupted in August of 2008.

As a result of this investigation, police officers have seized several pounds of methamphetamine, over 15 firearms, 6 marijuana grow houses (with approximately 300 to 1,300 plants per house), 13,000 ecstasy pills, and a lab capable of producing 10 to 20 pounds of methamphetamine per reaction. Investigators estimate that they seized approximately $890,000 in alleged criminal assets over the course of the investigation.

If convicted, Reyes faces a maximum statutory penalty of life imprisonment, a $4,000,000 fine, and five years to life of supervised release. His actual sentence, however, will remain in the discretion of the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables and factors.
