Alicia Manuel, 25, and her girlfriend, Mercedes Howard, were taking care of Manuel’s son on September 27, 2007. Howard became upset when the 3-year-old child spit on her, she started to batter and abuse the toddler. Manuel watched but didn’t intervene. Then, Howard pushed the victim into the shower. She angrily pushed the boy who fell and hit his head on the bath tub. The infant died a short time later as a result of the abuse.
Manuel lied to police officers and attempted to thwart the investigation into abuse of her son by her girlfriend. She also helped Howard dress the child so that the police couldn’t see the bruises on him. Both women eventually admitted to what happened to the victim.
Howard was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison in 2008.
