However, the RAF crews are quite habituated to such developments as was affirmed by Mark Gorringe, Wing Commander of 111 Squadron. As per the RAF, they have come across similar situations at least 20 times after 2009. The incident took place on March 10, the Ministry of Defence reported. Two Tornado F3 fighter jets of RAF were deployed to intercept the Russian planes.

The RAF Leuchars staffs spend a tough time in watching and protecting the British airspace. The motive of the Russians is not very clear though. It could be owing to watch submarine activities or some other tasks. The RAF took the snaps of the Russian jets intruding into the British airspace. The Tu160 Blackjack planes flew at supersonic speeds in British airspace and then vanished into northern horizon. The Russian planes did not get in touch with RAF air traffic control and since they are capable of carrying weapons, a risk is always there with such intrusions, the RAF spokespersons said. It can be interpreted as Russia trying to flex its military muscles they felt.

The Russian jets that intruded into British sky did not cause any damage but they are capable of carrying heavy weapons and the RAF did not waste any time in intercepting them. Meanwhile, it has been stated that Russia is reportedly working on new fighter jets and they make such intrusions to check the interception time of neighboring countries.
