Nov 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Russian newspaper known as ‘Kommersant’ has named the man which the Kremlin says is responsible for the spy ring bust which occurred in the United States last summer, when Anna Chapman and her cohorts rose to fame, and got sent home in the largest spy swap since the cold war.

According to the paper, the Kremlin has revealed that Col Shcherbakov of the Russian foreign intelligence agency was actually working for the United States all along, and had been responsible for turning over the spies which were discovered at that time.

It was the job of Col Shcherbakov to plant those moles, and perhaps more, into deep cover in the US. Now the Kremlin claims that hs changed sides and turned those moles in. The paper goes on to explain that Col Shcherbakov fled to the United States in June, only three days before the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made his official visit to America. The agents were taken into custody a mere few days later.

The paper also quotes an unnamed source from the Kremlin as saying that perhaps a hit had already been placed on Col Shcherbakov’s head for the betrayal. They also stated that he will most likely spend the rest of his life fearing what the Kremlin will do to him for his antics as a double agent. The report by the ‘Kommersant’ was verified by Gennady Gudkov, deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s security committee.
