March 24th, 2011 - 12:33 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattMoscow, Mar 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Russian army are in a different kind of battle- with the snow. In a bid to control a future avalanches, the soldiers fired into the mountain snow to force a controlled avalanche.
The targeted snow is on the route between Russia and Ossetia. A future avalanche could block the highway. The Russian army has been firing on the snow for weeks now. Several soldiers are involved in the exercise with several rounds of shots fired into the snow to force an avalanche.
A video of the exercise has emerged on the Internet. The most curious thing about the whole exercise is the way that the soldiers walk to their vehicles when the avalanche is triggered. As casually as they can be, the soldiers make their way to their vehicles. The soldiers managed to force some avalanches and they believe that it would go a long way to prevent a future avalanche that might cut off that vital route.
There are roads and train tracks on the route. In the event of a major avalanche, transportation between Russia and Ossetia could be severely hampered. The route is one of the most vital in the region.
